Inacurate Gas Guage

Gas guage is not right. Varies depends if i'm parked up or down hill. Sometimes it goes from 1/4 to1/2 tank. Any advice or similar problem? Thanks!

Fuel level in tank is determined by a float. As the truck goes from level to sloped, the fuel in the tank will present different levels to the float which will obviously move up and down, causing the gauge indicator needle to move. How could you not know this?

But he guage does not change while driving. It stays the same. went from almost half to E overnight. Still shows E after hours on level ground.

Are you sure someone isn't making use of your extra gas? Yes, they are not the most accurate 'guess' gauge, but not as bad as yours.

Possibly a bad ground or sending unit, but I would check grounding on the tank unit first.

There was a thread a while back that said that the use of injector cleaner or dry gas could fix this issue. It had something to do with gunk buildup on the float arm in areas that used a lot of ethonal

I would think it would be the opposite , ethanol word be more likely to remove any buildup . Also the use of injector cleaners should be used as instructed too concentrated might take the coating off the armature and ruin the pump , and never run a tank dry , or keep cranking it once it runs out as you will burn up the pump

I've been using a fuel stabilizer/cleaner for ethanol fuels in my truck the whole seven years since new, also in our other vehicles since we have to use E10 here. I just don't get this kind of problem. Injectors stay clean, engines always run great, catalytic converters stay sweet. Yep, costs me about $20 every 320 gallons of fuel (3 vehicles). That really adds up, doesn't it? But its worth it to me. My truck may sit for two or three weeks at a time, and the other vehicles are light-use too.

Thanks for the replys. I put injector cleaner in my fuel maybe once a month and it hasn't helped. its been like that since i got the truck last july. Maybe i should add more concentrated one. What you all think? Thanks again for the advice.

What brand/type of stabilizer do you use?

I've tried Lucas, and many others. But have yet to try the Chevron Techron. Also there is no Chevrons near my location.

The sending unit on the tank will usually have a grounding wire attached to it. Unfortunately the sending unit is on top of the tank.
