Tbird IRS springs

If you have installed the TEAM321 brackets, what springs did you use? If you cut your coils, how much and from top or bottom of coil?

Trying to decide if I am going to cut my coils, buy lowering coils, or use air bags.

How do you like the TEAM321 brackets? Just my 2cents worth but I wouldn't cut my springs. If I install a IRS I'll probably try to go air bags, not to raise and lower the stance but for the ride comfort.

Nothing wrong with his brackets. I don't expect to cut the coils, but am trying to establish what height the coils should be. Bags are a very good likelihood. On the other hand, the Air Lift bags that fit inside the coils would help overcome coils to soft. Just looking for ideas.

I used Thunderbird lowering springs for the rear of my Lincoln Mark VIII IRS.

I bought these about 5-6 years ago from J.C. Whitney and they were Thunderbird lowering springs. The Original springs, on the left in the picture, came out of a boneyard bird I was think of using but didn't install them after I found the lowering springs. I searched JC Whitney before I posted my thread and couldn't find them. I found this site and I hope it helps.

I used the stock spring with 1/2 coil cut. I made my own brackets as I didn't like the look of the front arms hanging down below the frame,. Pics are in my garage/ album.

I don't know where you plan to buy your springs, but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EATON! Stay away from them.

My gosh I have heard nothing but good about Eaton. Has it changed hands maybe?

I was a fan, I bought a set of 2" lowering coils for my crownvic IFS in my 56. When I installed them the truck sits 2" taller than the factory springs.

That means they will have to settle 4" to get the 2" drop. I thought it may be a fluke, I signed onto the crownvic forum, turns out all of those guys are having problems with them to.

I called eaton and he told me to drive it and they will settle....... no way are they settling 4".

On top of that you guys know how these builds go, they take years. So by the time I do get to drive it, if they won't settle, they won't return them.

Did you tell them about your build (i.e. As time/ money permits)? Maybe they will take note and honor your concerns once you get the truck running. Seems odd that the old springs would have settled so much that "lowering springs" would be higher than the old factory springs by several inches. Even if the CV IFS is almost, if not, 10 years old.

I agree these builds can take forever, that's part of the madness. But Vendors need to understand the nature of our hobby. But then again how long is too long? I've got a pair of front tilt hinges still in the box from the early 80s. They're so old the place I bought them from is no longer in business SOCAL F100s. Lost the instructions but thanks to a fellow FTE member I got a copy of them. Maybe some day I'll get them installed.
I guess our hobby will always be in a catch 22 situation. Just have to do our homework before we buy and have a good dose of luck.
