I understand that when my 53 F-100 was new it had a shallow metal pan under the seat which held the jack and tire iron. Any information regarding this pan will be much appreciated. Photos would be great. I assume that the jack was a bumper jack? And the tire iron also served as the jack pump handle?
Ford used jacks like this for years. Here is a newer one with its jack handle this is from ebay and is listed as a 2003 F150 jack. The handle on our jacks folded in half:
I do not believe the jack had anyway of securing it under the seat. The 48-52 jacks had a hole in the base that a thumb screw went into to hold it in place. Under or behind the 55-56 seats is an upright piece of sheet metal. I believe the jack was to be stored here along with the handle. I do not know if Ford supplied a lug wrench or a hubcap popper.
