I have read thread after thread and can't seem to find anything simmilliar to my plan.I have been planning to build a vintage welding truck for the longest time,,,I allways planned on maybe using my 91 ram 350 4x4 as a donor.As it turns out last year I flipped my 05 3500.I was forced to use old faithful backup again for work I bought the whole thing back from ins after settling for a very reasonable price...I wanted to salvage welder and bed.And in the reality of the damage it was all on the cab of the truck.I had just finished extensive maintanaince and drivetrain is all in perfect shape.
I am wondering if anyone has done this or tried this with a vehicle this new?
Is there any similar threads to read I haven't found?The cummins is all electronic as well as trans.
Am I Trying to bite off to much to chew or this doable project?
Thanks Dave
Nothing is impossible, but some things are less practical than others. It would be much more practical to put your donor driveline and welder on a 56 chassis. Frame swaps are no way as easy as they sound.
I was thinking about a frame swap a few years ago, but ended up staying with stock 56 f600 frame and fit the Cummins and 6speed in it.
I'm very happy with it and glad l did not go the frame swap route.
AlbuqF-1,Yes I probably should fix the 05,but on the other hand I will probably never have the chance to have a drivetrain like this for a 56 again.What I payed to get the truck back was almost like I bought the welder and bed with the truck for free.(free parts).
Axracer&irondragon79.Yes I really need to do some serious measuring and figuring.I really like what Stephen67 has got goin.I thought about something like that,but a new driveline is a major asset,I would like to go to work and not worry about anything but regular maintenance.Unless I find another 56 frame,I probably shouldn't use the one I have.It was shortened once already for life as a tow truck.And the old repair is questionable.
All just a idea missing a blueprint,thank you for opinions. Somehow I'll have a56 welding rig,Just gonna have to figure out how!
Thanks Dave

Two wheel drive or four?I guess if I boxed the whole frame...
The "Power Block" show "Trucks" recently did a frame swap where they installed a mid 70's Ford truck onto a late model Dodge chassis. The provided a lot of practical information that would apply to frame swaps in general. I think you can buy CD's of the show on their website.
I think some careful planning with a tape measure would tell you more than any of us could. Anything is possible though. I was at an ATHS show last year and there was an early model Mack on a Dodge Chassis. They guy has driven this truck back and forth to Alaske numerous times. Here's a pic;
