I plan to drive my truck much more this year (well, I hope too anyways!). My wipers currently don't work at all and I would prefer electric wipers. I have and plan to keep the current 6 volt system. Does anyone make an affordable 6 volt electric wiper system/motor? Thanks.
I am restoring a '51 and I would prefer electric wipers. There seem to be quite a few 6v wiper motors from Jeeps that can be easily adapted. That is what I plan to look into when I get to that point.
Or, another thought, I have thought about putting another 6 volt 'motorcycle' battery in a hidden spot so that I can have 12 volts for wipers and stereo, but still leave the 'ole girl 6v as she was made. Wiring them in series should give us 12v for those needs. Right?

Well, yes, that would give you 12 volts except both batteries would have to be charged by your generator (if it's still stock). I'm not sure that would work.
Years ago I was looking into electric wipers for my 54. I think a VW motor was also mentioned. (Of course that would be hard to find) I had a 55 that had an electric wiper motor.
I have a VW system from a Super Beetle I was going to modify, 12v tho. The pivot spacing is nearly correct for a 48-52, and it would be easy to modify to be correct. The earlier VW systems were 6v, but face it, they are 50 yrs old already. Mounting the unit would be easier on a stripped cab that you could do some welding on without worries about paint etc. There is very little under the dash on 51-52's to attach anything to, at least 48-50's have the radio supports (tho they are also in the way of the linkage).
Old VW replacement parts are easy to get. There's at least a dozen distributors that sell VW parts. Cip1 is on the west coat, and mid America motorworks is in Illinois. Midfify sells and electric 6v, I'm sure.
Or, I can check if the 6v motor that came with mine works. You can have it if you want it. My truck was converted to 12v by the PO, but he didn't finish changing the parts. Something I have completed.
Or, you can ask on FTE to see if anyone has extra 6-volt wiper assemblies laying around that still work. I would be more than happy to go check the three extra electric ones I have to make sure they run as they're supposed to. I still have a complete functioning vacuum one too, with control cable.
