i have been wanting to get another winch for my trailers and just havent had the time or motivation. recently i found a great deal ($200 free shipping) for a 9k lb badland winch. i read pretty good reviews and figure for a trailer it would suit my needs well. so it is coming today. i am planning on building a receiver mount for it so i can use it on the front and back of my truck as well as any of my trailers (they already have the the receiver tube welded on) for a multipurpose setup.
my question is about storage. i would like to keep it with the truck all the time bc i just never know when i might need it, you rarely actually get to plan to use a winch. my toolbox is full already so that wont help me. i would prefer not to take up any more room in the bed since i have my stacks and toolbox. i was thinking about welding some receiver tube on the back of my hitch frame under the truck so that i can just keep it on the receiver itself so as not to take up my actual hitch receiver. i also plan to build some sort of enclosure to help keep it from getting wet and dirty when not in use.
WIll it not fit under your tool box thats in your bed? Maybe you could slide it all the way to one side, since one of your stacks is allready in front of your tool box it might not take up much usable space.? Just a thought.
Good find on the winch too!
well my toolbox straddles my stacks, i dont really have the room i dont think. but i will certainly check it out. i might have enough room since this winch isnt tall like my others. it also depends on the mount i come up with.
Not knowing how big you winch set up is, but it looks like you should have enough room to bolt a section of tube to your tool box just off the drivers side corner facing the bed and be able to still access your tool box. let us know what you do and include some pics.
