paint removal

What is the best method to remove paint from an entire truck? Chemical strip, sanding, sandblasting? Would chemical strip be the cheapest option, would it leave any sort of residue? Thanks.

If at all possible, just sand down to solid paint. The original primer is usually good stuff. Another alternative is a kelvar sanding disc. I have heard that one will strip an entire car. I have one but have yet to try it.

Removing all paint before refinishing is a myth. There is no need to remove paint unless there are imperfections such as checking, splitting, cracking, peeling etc... Any paint with poor adhesion needs to be removed or at least taken back to an area that is in good repair. Ford has issued a service bulletin asking repair shops to not remove excess finishes. Ford is using a rust inhibiting primer and removal of it will promote rusting. There are vehicles that have chemical coatings on the steel and sanding will remove these too.

Thanks, that'll save alot of work. Does it matter if there are spots that are all the way down to the metal?
