Changing serpentine belt.

Ok I havent done alot of research on this so I am just asking you all. I have a 2004 F250 with the 6.8l v10. I am trying to change the surpentine belt how do i release the tension I tried to you both a 1/4 and 1/2 in ratchet 1/2 is to big and quarter is to small. Is there a special tool. Any insite would be great thanks

Not meaning to sound like a smart ***, but did you try a 3/8"? I use a 3/8 breaker bar for mine, works every time.

Not sure now if it was 3/8 or 1/4 you have me scratching my head. I will have to double check.

On mine the manual says to use a 1/2", but a 3/8" fits. 1/2" is too big.

1/2 drive worked perfectly on my '04 5.4L. Any rust or other junk in there that might make the fit tight?
