What the @#$% is this under my intake on a 99 5.4l?

Just replaced the IAC valve on my 99 f250 LD 4x4 w/5.4. (should have done it when I took it off and cleaned it.) Naturally I dropped the old gasket down between the intake tubes. I tried to remove it and while doing so discovered that theres some sort of cover under the intake just flopping around. Theres an Identical one on the driver's side that is not. The only way I can describe it is that it's about 16" long and 6" side with groves on one side that look like they go around the bolts of the intake. What is this and will it hurt anything? Motor is running fine. Is it broken off of the intake or just come loose ?

Let me describe it further. It's either metal or hard plastic and it's like half
of a valve cover. 3d not 2d. It looks like it was part of the intake maybe . No leaks or vacuum problems. The engine is running great. I guess to be sure I should pull the intake.

Some of the 2V's came with a lower intake sound insulator-it's possible that's what you're seeing. I know I've seen them on Explorers and Mountaineers, it's very possible that Ford used them on other models as well.

That sounds reasonable. I can't see where it's broken off or anything. Thanks.

Funny I just found this 2 nights ago on my 5.4L It actually has little cut outs on the top of it, mine is crispy dry and will just break apart if you mess with it much. I pulled a plastic pin out of it but haven't taken the intake off yet to see the rest of it. I'll try and take a pic when I do.

I took a better look at it today. I would say that Johnny is correct. It seems to be just a plastic sound insulator - dust cover, that has come loose. I pushed it back into place . ( I don't think it will stay) It appears in good shape, Not hard or fragile. I'll probably just let it go for now.
