We have seen lots of options in some great discussions here. I HATE to cut a dash - won't do it. When I installed my 51 stock clock in my ash tray (huh?) I actually bought another ash tray to put in it's place to keep it stock if need be.
As far as Radios, you can put them in the glove box or under the seat and use a remote, or you can build an overhead or console holder - lots of options!
Here's a picture of mine - quarter sawn red oak with polished stainless bed strips! Two speakers in the console and two more in the kick panels:
Also, they do make replacement modern stereos that fit in the original cut out. USA makes them and I think LMC still sells them. Do a Google Search for "USA-5 Stereo"

Did you find a radio for your F1?
This is kinda late, but I sold my 51, and have a Ford pushbutton radio, OEM. I never installed it, but I did have it checked out, and the shop said the vibrator was fine, hummed as it is supposed to do. If you have any interest, I'd sell it in a heartbeat.
