Engine woes on '89
Another problem: After doing heavy driving or climbing a hill, the engine seems to smoke after I turn it off. It's a bit of a strange-smelling smoke, it's white and seems to rise up from the engine itself when I take a look. I don't know the cause of this problem either.
If anyone can give some input on what these problems are, that would be great. Thank you.
the smoke and different odor could come from a slipping serpintine belt. i had that experience last year, i had a strange rubber/burining smell up front, i checked the belt, it had many cracks in it so i replaced it. no more smell. guess the smoke could be from the same thing? i suspect my power steering pump is getting harder to spin with age, causing the drag on the belt.. not sure. but i'm ok for now.
other things up front would be radiator or hose leak, with antifreeze getting on the block andburning off...that would smell weird..or a tranny fluid coolant line leak at or under the front of the engine. all those thing would bear some crawling around to check... hope that helps some, at least it is somewhere to start.. rick
