Anyone put an AOD in a 57-60 F100?

My poor 60 F100 has been sitting in the back yard for the last 5 years and I want to get it back on the road. I am considering a turnkey engine to get things going easy and quick but am not sure what to do about the transmission.
Originally I wanted to put in an AOD but I am not sure of the clearances without a lot of modifications.
I setup mounts for a 302 and put it in place with the existing C4. The engine is very close to the firewall but sits low in the engine compartment so that the lower pulley is below the front crossmember but clears it by 1-2 inches.
I wonder if the larger AOD tranny is going to cause me problems.

How strong is the C4? If I got a rebuilt C4 would it handle a 300HP engine that will not be raced but would of course be passing vehicles on the highway?

I been away from this too long I have forgotten everything I had learned.

Don't have a Fridge but I did put an AOD in my 49 F-1. There were no firewall or floor modifications so my guess is the AOD wil fit your Fridge just fine. I also think a rebuilt C4 would handle up to 300 HP with no problem so I think you're golden either way....

Last I was under the truck looking at the C4 there was very little room available which made me think the AOD might not fit well.

I have a a bolt in crossbar tranny mount from a Crown Victoria that looks like it will fit well under my truck. I have to look and see if possibly I can drop out the crossmember that is in there to make space and reinforce the frame elsewhere or rely on the Crown Vic crossmember to do it.

Dimensions here, pretty close it looks like, especially the pan-fill C4 vs. AOD, but then you have to compare all dimensions. A couple inches might as well be a mile if it don't fit.

TCI - TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Transmission Dimensions

ALSO, read their propaganda on the AOD. At the very least, you want an '88 to '93 trans to start with, as earlier models were trouble. Additional beef ups available for ju$t a little more ca$h....

Bruman, welcome to FTE. Just a quick note...when posting to a thread, you might take a quick look at the date in upper left corner of each post. This one is 5 years old and the last post was almost 2 years ago...

Hi TigerDan!
Look in the upper right corner of my post ! However, I did just come back into the fold after a long absence. I must, however, admit it was pretty goofy of me not to check the date of the post before replying! See ya.
