After a certian year of age the odometer reading is exempt anyway. I bet there is a way to zero it. I was thinking about doing the same thing after my 5.8 swap.
Idk if its legal or not, but after I get this motor and trans installed, the whole drive train will be new in the last year, and all will be under 10,000 miles on them.
Idk why it would be an a vehicle this old... When you sell a vehicle in this state, there is a box to check that states something like "odometer is not actual miles" so unless your changing it to fool someone, I don't see why It would matter...
Come to think of it... I want to do the same thing when i get my 5.8 swap done... I'll have a totally rebuilt drive train too... Only thing is... I have the older 5 digit odometer that rolls the numbers up... not the new electronic read out one... I am going to pull the dash on Thor and see if I can roll the Odometer back to "0"...
you might be able to do that.. I've done that on older styles like that before. just took it apart, and put the #s where I wanted them. I wasswapping speedos and wanted the odomometer to read actual...
sounds good to me! to answer your question... shouldn't you just be able to replace the PSOM with a brand new one??? that would put the milage back to "0" wouldn't it??? The PSOM is what stores the milage right???

I don't know why it would matter either but it does. Every state in the union has a law against it in addition to a Federal statute. Personally, I wouldn't buy any vehicle that the owner admitted to messing with the odometer. His intentions may or may not have been honorable but that won't matter to me. If he did that, what else may he have done that was also illegal that I might get popped for. Removed the cat? Also against Federal law by the way. But, its your truck, do what you want to do with it.
I know there are a few ways to add miles. I came across a few write ups on a Bronco forum. So technically you could probably run it forward till it hits 999999.9 and perhaps it would reset to 000000.0 after that.
One thing though. It wasn't proven that the odometer would reset back to zero after that or that it would just hang on all 9's in the display.
