heard it once heard it a thousand times.....

I know this is a common topic on this site, I've been a member since 07 when i got my truck and still get the same answers. after learning a little bit more about my truck over the time I've had it i just have to ask till i find the answer I'm looking for. this truck has been great for me and hasn't let me down.

I own a 2006 F-250 xlt with the 5.4l Triton 3v.
the truck has 230000kms with 4100 hrs run time

Modifications:
k&n filter
throttle spacer (useless)
cortex super chips tuner

Problem.
cam phasers.... i know if you hear a ticking noise its most likely that or if you have a spark plug backing off that can be the issue as well. i have checked these things out on the truck through a site i got from FTE actually and have eliminated these components.
i have a friend of a friend that looked at my truck and said with all confidants that it was my injectors. how do i tell. how much does it cost and what is the best way to tackle this if it is the problem?

i can say this site has saved me a lot of money and time and headache so i thank all of you for sharing your knowledge and can only hope i can help in the future.

thanks

It shouldn't be an issue to just run it as it is.

It is supposedly a typical trait of the Modular based motors. I can't say exactly why though. My 06 does it as well. Has when new, still does at almost 90k. I can really only hear it with the hood open.

Does the ticking only occur when the truck is cold? If so, exhaust leak maybe??

My '08 Lincoln Mark LT clacked away like a manual typewriter. As DAVE67FD stated above, "Has when new, still does at almost 90k." Okay, well, it wasn't 90K, but the point is that it started within the first 1,000 miles. And it continued to the day that I traded it in.

I have never heard of anyone complaining of noisy injectors on any Triton engines, 2V or 3V.

The usual cause is the cam phasers. Some engines are worse, but it isn't harmful. You can try a different brand of oil and a good filter (say no to Fram) to see if it helps.

Noisy injectors on the 3vs are normal and harmless. I walked by one the other day that damn near sounded like a diesel! but you said it changes from day to day and is worse when you first crank it so im saying cam phasers.
