Air Bag explosion direction for a 2006 explorer

I have a 2006 explorer that I use as an emergency volunteer Fire Fighter vehicle. My question is I want to mount a dash light on the dash ... Does the Passanger side air bag explode from the top or from the front. As if it pops from the top it will knock of the dash light and use that will become a missle.

Thanks in Adv.

Not sure of a correct answer but you can usually see a seam, very faintly, right through the center or whereever the engineered parting line is supposed to be. If you are useing the truck as a mobile office and never carry front seat passengers you could just remove the air bag and reinstall it when getting rid of it.
Or, you could go to a salvage/tow yard and look at a wrecked one, also any body shop.

Thanks..
But thats just it... I don't see a seam. So i wonder if there is a hinge that either pops from the top or front that lets the airbag come out.

The only ones that I have looked at split right down the middle with half going up and the other half down. I never really paid much attention to it. I strongly suggest that you go to a junk yard and check for yourself.

Mount a set of wig-wag/strobes to the windshield behind the mirror... or to the sun visor....flip down when running code 3.....

Based on this service manual diagram the bag cover will separate on the occupant side of the dash top, fly up against the windshield and the bag come towards the passenger. Don't think I'd sit anything on top of the sash area on that side.

Here's an actual photo.

That looks like the exact information the OP was looking for. It also explains why there is no seam in the cover to see, as I suggested that he look for.
