indexing / degreeing cams

ok this lil' procedure made some difference in my older v8's of the ohv design , not much at all in my flatty when it went together the first time , and i want to know if it does on these mod motors . i'm gonna be buying a set of used pi cams to go in the f5ae heads i'm dropping on my 95 bird along with a pi intake . i was wondering outside of ensuring when things should be opening and closing if there were any torque or power gains from this with the mods ???? this old car is on a strict budget due to my oldies , and i don't want to throw money away having them " indexed " { cams and gears }if it's not going to show some sort of appreciable gain .

Degreeing cams is always a great idea, and it WILL gain power and torque. Problem is, there are no published specs for the OEM cams, so degreeing them will be next to impossible. Degreeing a modular is also not the easiest thing to do-it's very tight in the confines of the heads, and getting an accurate placement for the dial indicator is not easy, plus you have to fabricate a sold adjustable "lifter" (lash adjuster), so you co do the degreeing at zero lash, and then if you're off, you must either modify the OEM gears, or purchase a set of adjustable gears.
