infamous bubbling paint TSB
#16
I have got the bubbling on my hood (across the front just above the grill) and the lift gate below the chrome. The lift gate is worse with the paint cracking and peeling off. There is one spot on the hood where I can see metal through the bbbling. I have reported it to my dealer and have an appointment to have it looked at Monday. I have the ESP for corrosion. Will I have any trouble with the dealer. I am well under the miles on the ESP.
Your dealership's service manager will be in the best position to answer questions about repairs that can be made under warranties or service plans. Make an appointment so they can perform an inspection and make some recommendations on next steps.

OK they looked at my truck, took photos and submitted them to Ford. Basically they said Ford would deny the claim because the paint is bubbling and peeling both on the hood and the tail gate, but there is NO RUST, so it is NOT covered even under the the ESP that I paid dearly for. The next day they called me to confirm that Ford did in fact deny the claim. Then they mailed me the paperwork. Another satisfied customer here I guess. Just received an email to rate my service experience. Let me see?

You can either appeal to your service manager asking for help, or paint it on your dime. Some managers understand the issue and will at least cut you a good break on the body work. Panels need to be completely stripped and re-painted.

I had my hood and tailgate repainted just before the warranty expired. A few weeks later I noticed a chunk of paint flaked off my power running board. The dealer was sympathetic (not enough to fix it) but said I would have to call for service, after weeks of getting the run around and being ignored by some joker at customer service in Florida. I finally called and demanded to speak to him as he would not return any of my calls. What did he say? We are going to go with our original theory that this is caused by stone chips!! You can clearly see the paint is bubbling and peeling off. Stone chips??? And I had just had the hood and tailgate painted.. Unbelievable lack of customer service and no regard for taking responsibility for issues with their vehicles.

It is not, again, 100% from a rock chip. It's an adhesion issue.

Don't know if anyone has seen this but here ya go... what a great bunch of people at the Ford Motor Co. Deny, deceive and do everything they can to not fix the problem which has been around for years now with aluminum corrosioin... I just read that most dealerships that take Expy's in on trade paint the liftgate immediately to cover up any of the corrosion that may be there before they try to resell it. Nice. Don't doubt that one... anyway, our 2010 is doing this and we don't know what to do with it. 3 years of payments left, $1100 to "fix" it since Ford rep says I was "too ****" about our truck and they were finished trying to make me happy... corrosion could come back again or break out somewhere else even if I have a local body shop fix it... bout ready to trade it off. My family have been very loyal to Ford for years, but I am DONE with these crooks. Damn shame you pay this much money for something and all you get is the run around and excuses, and then have to spend even more money to fix their mistakes and take them to court to try and recoup your loss.

And a sidebar to my earlier post- We have a 2004 Honda Accord. Radio and all hvac controls went out a few years ago. 100,000+ miles. Looked on the web and found this was a known problem for Honda, very similar to this debacle with Ford. Called Honda and within 3 days of the first and only phone call, car was in the shop, new radio installed and out the door with a sincere apology for my troubles. Brother had a Honda Odyssey. Honda put 4 transmissions in it before they finally sold it at 300,000 miles. Didn't cost him a cent. Why can't the Big 3 provide service like that???

Blistering Paint Fixed
Vehicle owners with issues pertaining to blistering/peeling paint on Ford vehicles have taken the automaker to small claims court. This has resulted in vehicle owners winning repaints (some $5K and above). Owners have taken action and have received repaints or repayments in NJ, MI, OR, NY, ID, IL, IN, MA, MD, CA and TX. Most of the vehicles were out of warranty, many were pre-owned. However they still prevailed. Two of the vehicles were also ten years old.
