List of things done while still on warranty on my 6.0

1. Fast idle mod

2. Dieselsite coolant filter. Got it in last night and got this warm fuzzy feeling as I felt it warm up right away from the coolant. I could just picture all the crud its removing.

3. Changing oil every 5000 miles, using Delo400 15w40. Still researching oils as there seems to be so much on this. Some say Dino OK and others say should be synthetic.

4. Will keep up on the fuel filters

5. Edge Insight gauge with probe, just got FP gauge and will install Saturday.

6. Started using DieselKleen

Is there anything else I can do while still on warranty? My warranty runs out in a year. A big thanks to everybody for all your input into this forum. It really helps the new buyers and makes us more confident we can hold the truck together.

Any oil that meets CJ-4 or higher is fine.

Dino vs. synth comes down to bling bling --- unless you need 5w-40 as I do for cold starts.

You should Italian tuneup once a month.

Have you looked inside EGR to see if you have a big carbon buildup?

What the heck is an Italian tuneup and why should it be done once a month?

To the OP:
You have an excellent starting listed in your post. Follows is the maintenance schedule that I follow. Some people consider a few of the items to be a little over the top but following this list has served me well so far.

Clean EGR Valve - every 25,000 miles

Change Automatic Transmission Fluid & External Filter (Change Internal Filter Every Other Fluid Change) - every 30,000 miles

Change Engine Oil & Filter - every 5,000 miles

Rotate & Balance Tires - every 10,000 miles

Change Fuel Filters - every 15,000 miles

Change Coolant - every 50,000 miles

Change Front Differential Oil - every 60,000

Change Rear Differential Oil - every 60,000

Change Transfer Case Fluid - every 60,000 miles

Change Coolant Filter - every year

Change Accessory Belt - every 4 years

Change Brake Fluid - every year

Change Power Steering Fluid - every year

There are other reasons for using syn other than "bling bling". As far as wear goes yes Dino will do good. The difference is not somthing you will see in say an oil analysis. The reason syn is better is because it doesn't build sludge like Dino does. So it is better for turbo when you don't let the truck idle to cool before shut down. Also it's better on the injectors, and a few other things when it comes to the oil system. Gearloose I know you are a big advocate of this "itallian tune up" thing, but you are the only one I ever see advocate it. I never seen anyone else bring it up. It may not be a bad thing I'm just saying I have never even heard of it besides in your post.

There is a very high risk of carbon particles causing severe drivability problems after you mess around with the EGR valve.

OK, so is the recommendation to unplug it and if I do can I clear the computer if I have to plug in for warranty work? I worry about the EGR wrecking my turbo.

I never recommend unplug EGR valve.

I recommend you take it out, install a brand new one if you can't confidently test it and clean it.

Clean carbon, then get it working properly.

EGR will not wreck your turbo!
