Need help guys on a 01 ranger.

ok usually i just look over the forum and browse but recently now i need your help guy's. I tried to get my grandfathers 2001 ranger 4.0L rolling again but its a no go. Ok here's the deal he got sick and hasnt drove it for awhile. The truck run fine slick as a dime but recently i tried to start it up & it almost started to crank all the way up to run but then the battery died on me. So i go and get him a new battery regardless cause the other was old and it needed replacing. Then after putting the new one in it turns over fine but wont start up? Does anybody know what could be causing it not to start when before it would start up just fine the truck run very good. It has maybe 45,000 miles on it and trust me its not been ragged out and then it does this?? Someone help me out please its too nice of a truck to just be sitting around on a newer set of tires.

My guess is the fuel pump locked up. Try banging on the gas tank with a rubber hammer at the same time try turning it over. Make sure bang on the under side of the tank, in the middle. If it starts you know its the pump.

Try replacing the fuel filter and while it's off, blow compressed air towards the inlet line back into the tank to blow off any debris on the pick up sock in the fuel tank. When fuel sits a while it turns to crap and can plug things up.

How long has it been sitting? Is the gas in your area mixed with ethanol?

Reset button?? Did it get hit in the ***? Thats the only reason you should have to reset one of those. Like I said before, Bang on the middle of the bottom of the tank with a rubber hammer or something while trying to start it. It should free it up so it will start....

Could just be bad gas. Same symptoms on my 1994. I drained the tank, all the lines, and replaced the filter. After a couple of cranks it started rough, then eventually burned out all the crud and ran fine. The drained gas was a rust color. So maybe drain a couple gallons and see what the fuel looks like.

yeah so i got a little time to go over and mess with the truck and found when i turn on the key & best as i can tell im not hearing the pump priming on startup so......yeah im going to go back over there and take a 1/2 day this next week to mess with it including banging on the tank, draining the fuel (as much as i can), fuel filter, and so on i would've tried more today but i noticed the battery was getting weak so i stopped ill get on it next week like i said and have a charger chargin on start mode, ....i got a good question for you if and when i do have to drain some off the tank whats everyones best method of doing so? Reason i ask is the truck is in a carport and all i got is stock ground clearance to mess with it and thats it.

Fuel pump reset is located behind passenger kick panel. They have been known to trip. If you give fuel tank a rap be carefull as tank is made of plastic. Depending on how much gas is in tank you might want to add a gas can or two of fresh fuel to aid in getting it going. If you try starting fluid give it a shot at end of air intake by throttle body not by mass air flow sensor at end near air filter or you could damage it. You could also try cleaning mass air flow sensor with electrical cleaner to rule it out as a cause.

I just used a siphon pump i got from walmart for like 5 bucks and drained all the fuel into 5 gallon buckets. Total of like 13gallons of bad fuel. Then i put 5 gallons of good fuel in.
