81 f100 parts donor compatibility for a 55
I am in the process of searching but I figured Id ask as well because I need to figure out if I can use this stuff ASAP
I have a stock 55 f100 223 6cyl light duty manual 3 on the tree.
I came across an 81 f100 in good shape with a 6cyl and a 4 speed manual on the floor, 9" rear end.
My question is:
Will the 9" rear end work with minimal modification in the 55? (I know that 69-70 are the best match)
Will this 4 speed tranny bolt up to my 223?
thanks in advance.

Ford increased the rear frame rail width in 1973 from 33 1/2" to 37 1/2"
9" rear ends are wider because of this, why people use 9's from 1957/72 F100's in their 1948/56's.
1980/83 F100's were advertised as a Light Truck by FoMoCo. Most have "Swiss Cheese" frames, some have the anemic 255 2V instead of the 302 2V. Both engines look identical.
Very few options were available, there were no 4WD's or Super Cabs, some have 5 lug 4.50" bolt circle wheels, some have 5 lug 5.50" bolt circle wheels.
1980/83 F100's were the only F100's to have this odd bolt pattern, and 4.50" wheels from passenger cars will not fit because the wheels will not clear the calipers.
You do not want the 4.50" 9" (if that's what this truck has) because your present wheels will not bolt on.
The rear brakes are another "odd duck" as some are 10" x 2 1/2" instead of the 11" x 2 1/4" used on 1968/79 F100's, some 1980/83 F100's and 1975/96 F150's.

Anyone have any idea on the tranny? Or what 4 speed manual will bolt right up to the 223? I now I will have to redo the driveline most likely.
