Ford Recalling Transit Connect vans & halting all sales

Washington -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling 33,728 Transit Connect vans and halting sales until it fixes the vehicles. The Dearborn automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling 2010 Transit Connect vehicles to replace a part above the B-pillar trim on both the left and right side of the vehicle to address potential noncompliance with federal law. A government test showed a vehicle didn't meet one federal safety standard. The recall covers all Ford Transit vehicles built between Dec. 5, 2008, through May 31 at its Kocaeli plant in Turkey. Ford will notify dealers when it has a revised "headliner retention pushpin" to replace the possibly defective part
The volume of this recall sure doesn't match the announced total North American sales of this vehicle, which has been less than 10,000 so far. Maybe the others are on dealers' lots or in transit to them.

All of this for a plastic "Christmas tree" push-pin???? Geesh!

My Recall letter came today. PushPins on the B-Pillars. I suppose in their crash testing the current pins would shear or pop out, dropping the headliner on the occupants. If that wasn't it, then perhaps they popped out with enough enthusiasm to "put an eye out", which was also consider dangerous.

Either way, I'm glad to see Ford staying right on top of it.

Another one of those 'protect yourself from yourself' items. Like the TPS sensors.

Told the wife it she can't drive the Connect to the dealer we could put it on the dropdeck goose and pull it there with the F350.
