I'm Back - 1948 F-1

I bought my truck in in 2006, but shortly thereafter i threw a rod, and the 1953 flathead V-8 was dust. Thus became my quest to fine another re-buildable block. I finally found one ( a 1951 flatty that was destined for a hot rod whose owner ran out of money......imagine that...LOL) in Ventura California, hauled it home and started to get to work. When we opened her up......it was like she was sealed in amber...only it was hardened black oil! After a lot of work, that sucker seems happy to have a second chance! Then came the divorce....life can really throw you curves some times! Anyway, Henry is up and running after way too many years, and I am a free man! I am having more fun now than I did when I first bought the truck!

OK......disc brakes.....I want to upgrade to non-power disc brakes up front with a dual master cylinder. Any suggestions where the best place is to obtain a good kit at a fair price?

It's great to be back!

I'll be the rabble rouser - why go to disk brakes? My dad's stock 50 F-1 will lock up the 215-85-16 radials we installed.

Actually, I am more interested in getting a dual Master Cylinder. My current brakes stop just fine, and we don't have too much rain here in SoCal. But if I was going to the trouble of installing a new master cylinder, I thought I might as well go for the disc brakes.

A late-'60's Mustang drum-drum dual master cylinder is an easy upgrade, cheap, and you could eventually go to discs later. Do an Advanced Search you'll find many articles on it.

Know what you mean about being free -- it just gets better and better!

Hi Joe,
I haven't seen their brake kits in person, but everything I've purchased from Sacto Vintage Ford has been top quality and their service is first rate.

Replacing the original master cylinder on your truck is very simple. I bought a master cylinder at Advance auto parts for $38. No joke. It was an overnight order. I changed mine in a matter of minutes. And it was put to the test a few nights ago. A deer made me stand the truck on its nose and slide the tires. I was quite impressed.
