ABS Light On; Speedo not working: Fixed Thanks to FTE
Yep, just what the title says. Like many who posted about this subject before, last week, out of no where my ABS light came on and speedometer stopped working. After searching the the forums, I found the likely culprit: Vehicle Speed Sensor. Thanks to many that posted the how-to: I went to my local dealer ($20.00), got me the Ford part # F85Z-9E731-AB...and installed it in no time.
I could have gone the NAPA/Autozone route and gotten the part cheaper, but being a noob at this, I decided to go with the motorcraft part. Glad to report, ABS light is off and speedo is back to normal.
BTW, best how to: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...dometer-3.html

2000 Ford Ranger Abs Light On, Speedometer Still Not Functioning
Ok folks here is the deal. I have been vigorously trying to repair my 2000 Ford Ranger (2wd 4 cyl). After crubbing this forum along with many others I came to the realization that it has to be the VSS the sensor located on the rear differential. I recently purchased the part, replaced honestly took me 15 minutes. But upon driving the vehicle the abs light pops right back on, and the speedometer continues to not function. It is manual, it does not have any problem when I move the truck in and out of gear, or even shift gears while driving for that matter. The truck functions better than ever, no skips, not decrease in acceleration. But without the speedometer working I cannot get my vehicle registered. If anyone out there could PLEASE help, any help is much appreciated.
I did hear about there being 2 additional abs sensors located behind each rotor on the front axel of the truck. Unfortunately I have not gotten under there again to check it out.
Again any help as to what may be causing it would be greatly appreciated.
