F350 suspension brake helper?
Hey fellas,
Stripped my parts truck down this past week and got rid of it to make more room in the garage since winter is coming and it's time to get things inside.
While stripping it, I found this device attached to the rear axle. I kept it, and plan to install it on my driver if it's worth the time.
I'm not positive on the year of the truck, no paperowkr and the VIN decoder said it was an '81. But we all know the IDI wasn't even itroduced until '83. So needless to say, it's of the 83-86 vintage. The parts truck was an ex-ChemLawn truck, so it had the XLT interior with the fancy bench seat with sunken cupholders, tachometer, sway bars front and rear, PTO for the sprayer pump, and this brake device.
The hard steel brake line off the frame rail enters this device and exits as a rubber brake hose going to the divider block mounted on the axle housing which splits the fluid for each rear wheel. These steel bracket arms seem to move around when the suspension is loaded. What's up with this device? Worth keeping or is it just a hassle?

Load sensitive proportioning valve. Keeps the rears from locking up when empty. Nice feature but could be a pain to find parts for if it goes south.

If you have rotated it, it's junk, do not allow it to turn more then 1/3 of a rotation I believe the number is ... Something inside gets messed up when rotated to far.
I have tried to find a known good one and have been unable to do so, nor a testing procedure.
One of these days I plan on educating myself with one I have!
-Enjoy
