Hood Scoops/cowls *Need HELP*

I've been thinking about creating a hood scoop for a 92 f150 4.9l
I have no real knowledge yet though about the dynamics of this setup. The sensor is located before the filter and tubing so i'm assuming that it can be done with relative ease...sort of like making a snorkel.
The only goal i really have is better MPG and performance...don't think i'll taking this truck into any big mud pits so the snorkel concept is moot.
--ive got plenty scrap metal so i'm thinking about jsut cutting and fabricating.
BUT, we've got lots of rain and it's all salty ocean air.
Anybody with any knowledge or 2cents...please bring it.

If i do this, would it join the league of stupid? Or is there actually some positives to doing something like this on a fuel injected setup??
Thanks fellas. Please excuse the lack of research -- but you guys seem to always be the best and last answer anyways...

In most cases

In most cases a hood scoop is a waste of time on a street truck because the air intake is usually ducted to the front of the truck to bring in cool air anyway....
But if properly done it could look neat anyway...
You are better off dropping in a low restriction air filter.
But that is just my opinion...

The factory air intake on the 4.9 is more than adequate for the truck. The 300 does not move that much air anyway. I would not mess with it or the filter. Just leave that stock.

Yup - you already have a CAI from the factory - not much to improve on except if you are going swimming - then a high mount air intake is handy - as well as a high mount exhaust outlet!
