exhaust noise in 95 5.0 f150

My 95 f150 has developed an exhaust leak somewhere under the hood. Could it be coming from the crossover pipe? Is this an involved repair? Also, I tow a 6200 # TT with my 150 with a 3.35 rear, 5.0, and an AOD tranny. What mods can I make to make more power? It is a dog on a 6-9% grade. (55mph in 2nd gear on the floor on Eagle Mountain coming North).

Exhaust leak could be many things, cracked exhaust manifold, bad exhaust gasket, broken EGR tube, etc...

If you're towing that much on a regular basis, a gear change in the rear end (also front if 4X4 of course) to something like a 3.73 or 4.10 would certainly help with the pulling power. Trade off would be that your mileage under non-towing conditions would probably go down noticeably. Other mods like headers/exhaust system, MSD-type ignition, better air intake system might help some, but unless you change those gears it's still not going to pull very well.

Some of your truck specs sound odd. 3.35 isn't an available ratio; could it be 3.55 or 3.31? What's the AXLE code from your door sticker? And I don't think the AOD was used in '95; could it be an E4OD or a 4R70W? What's the TRANS code? Do you have a cable from the throttle lever going down to the side of the transmission (TV cable)?

For ideas on getting more power, check Project MPG.

The tranny is a "U" and the Axle is a "17" (3.31). Sorry for the incorrect information.

I have a '95 5.0 F150 and it did come with an AODE transmission. I assumed it was E4OD until I went to change the filter recently. And it also had an exhaust noise but it was from the collector fange to manifold studs not being tightened down completely. That whole exhaust is metal-to-metal, there is not one gasket in it. So check to make sure all the bolts are tightened before you try to remove anything for inspection.
