2004 F-150 Brake system
Hey guys,
My question is about my brakes. When you accelerate or tap the accelerator for a few seconds afterwards the brakes wont lock. I have driven other vehicles with anti lock, but this is different and a safety issue I think. My main concern is towing my boat. When I back it in, the weight of the boat pulling in reverse causes the brakes not to lock for a few seconds and I dont want to end up in the lake. Also when parking I have to be super careful not to tap the gas or else the brakes wont lock and I have almost hit two parked cars because of this.
Is this standard? What is it called? Can I have this dissabled?
Thank you to any who can anwer any of these questions or share thier experiences. Have a good one.

I'm with Rob_NC on this one. I've read your posts now 4 times and I'm still confused as to what you're really getting at.
The antilock system cannot be disabled. I'm not sure why you'd even want to do that in the first place. Sounds like some of this might be user error, but I really dislike making that claim without knowing more clear examples about your problem.
I'm sorry that we cannot really help you here, but we would need some clarification.

I have a good idea of what he speaks of....I don't really consider it a problem because I've found if you don't "stomp" the brake pedal just after "pumping" on the throttle they lock up pretty quickly, but if you stomp it takes a fraction of a second longer...
Scenario for the guys trying to get a grip on the story:
You're parallel parking tires cocked so you have to "pump" the throttle to get the truck moving since it doesn't have the power to creep at idle then go to hit the brakes because you are getting close to the other parked cars...the brakes seem to have a bit of lag to them.
I've launched my jet ski and my buddy's MasterCraft plenty of times with no issues. If you are that worried TexasFord59 when you launch your boat, consider using the rookie technique of using the parking brake while backing in.
As for the brake problem...its really not a problem, just try not to "pump" the gas...use firm slow&smooth pedal pressure on both....that is if your truck doesn't creep at idle. Sounds like you are in a rush to park your truck so you pump the gas and then slam the brakes...I was the same way till I found that patients and taking my time were worth it.
Trust me it gets worse when you put oversized tires on your truck...then you get a slight more lag when you rush the gas and brake...
