300 idles rough and dies if give gas

Ok I have an 88 bronco with a 300 5spd. I know its not a truck but not much help in the 300 section. When you take off and give it gas to take off it will die, but start up soon as you hit the key. If its idling and you give it more then a 1/4 pedal its like it cuts off and if you don't let up it will die, but you let off it runs. When idling it runs rough and has a slight miss. And it smells like its running really rich. Codes said map sensor, put a known good map sensor on it and a fuel filter, new plugs still does it. Will the egr being unhooked have anything to do wioth it? Please help

Haven't had a chance to check fuel pressure yet. Left out that black smoke is coming out of the pipe too, so I know its running rich. Was going to check the timing today but loosened the nut up and distributor won't , trying to get it running right before I buy it

if you get it running then wont the price go up ? check fuel pressure and compression and if the compression is good then thats a good sign , if fuel pressure is bad that will mean a pump but dont put one in if the truck is not yours yet !

He just got the bronco, he ain't even drove it himself. I have a complete 87 f150 4x4 that's a 300 4spd I can use for parts with a complete motor etc. I paid 800 for my truck and he wants to give me the bronco and 700 cash. His offer not mine lol

Before spending a dime take a look at the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Pull off the vacuum hose then inspect it for signs of fuel by smell and sight. If there is any indication of fuel that means the diaphragm is bad which allows fuel to be sucked into the intake. I would suggest to also do the same test while the engine is running. Very common problem on these trucks.

If the FPR passes this test, then it is time to invest in a gauge to check the fuel pressure.
