Thumbs up TRP to remain another 5 years.....

Apparently the track has been leased for 5 years, and will remain open at least that long.
I haven't found any confirmation yet, aside from an announcement that the SCCA RallyCross Nationals will return to TRP for 2012.

That's going to make a lot of people happy. I was amazed at how many were talking about it when it was closing.

It sure made my day hearing this, and I'm not much of a drag racer. I'll watch, but have little interest in a race that frowns on turning corners, or only lasts less than 20 seconds. Personal preference is what it is.

I love that TRP is there, and will remain open. I've always encouraged the "street racer" crowd to leave it for the track. The street is no place for racing, unless they have been closed to all other traffic.

I was excited until i read this.......

"...Two local businessmen, Todd Martin and Keith Haney, have teamed up with the City of Owasso in a multi-year lease deal with the current owners. ..." KOTV website.

Can't wait to hear how my Owasso citizen tax payer dollars will be used for TRP. sigh....it's not enough that we fund a freaking NOT-profit making golf course, that all the city employees get to use at a discount, now the city of Owasso is going to be putting my tax payer money towards TRP? WTH...........

Don't get me wrong; i enjoy TRP and my boys spend money and time out there, when we can, but i don't think my city tax payer dollars should be used to fund that place. Can't wait to hear the details...hopefully i misread that quote above.....

owasso is looking at this like an investment for the tax revenue that will be gained by the events put on a TRP, I dont know what kind of deal tod or keith has put together with the city but I think that the tax brakes for the track would more in order instead of giving the track money. They are talking about putting on concerts at the track now too, but I am glad the hear that ateast for the next 5 years we have a local place to race.

Ron, this weekend at the banquet Tod said the main reason they teamed up with Owasso is because the city, and city counsel have more pull with the media than the track does. He did say that the only financial stuff owasso gave was a waver of deposits and to help set up T&K llc wich is the company that has the lease of the track. Its not like the city od owasso is going to write a check to the track every month. Tod and Keith both said they aproched the city of tulsa and they basicaly said we dont care about you or what you are doing.
