If you get a chance to see the physical differences between the intake plenums, spider, etc from an e99 to a later setup, you will notice why the upgrade has its benefits. Lisa (Smokin') still had her e99 stuff when we had our GTG last month and I had a chance to see the parts first hand and compare to the later model parts.

Earlies do have less power than the lates. Smaller injectors, smaller turbo. I think the injectors are 120cc AB codes instead of the ~145cc AD codes in the late 99 & up.

true but cass at full force told me they realy flow around 135 cc on the bench..not clear on why Ford called them 120's..the AB injectors are very easy to convert to a single shot 238 hybrid just by putting in B code P&B's

found it
AB injectors came in the '97 cali, and all early '99 trucks. They are split shot injectors meaning they fire a small pilot shot before the main shot. These injectors flow 130-135cc of fuel.
AD injectors are also split shot but flow 135-140cc of fuel due to a slightly longer plunger stroke. These are found in all late '99-'03 Powerstrokes and T444Es.

if you do the math it takes 1cc of fuel to make 2 HP so the gains in injectors from e99 to 99.5 isnt much..most of the loss is HPOP and turbo

no worries on the hijack. I'm learning. So how much HP do you think the HPOP and the 99.5+ turbo will get me each? I am keeping my eyes peeled for an HPOP in the classifieds. Turbo switch is too expensive for now. I will get that one done after the HPOP, Gauges, and DP Tuner. Getting the F6 so I can tune to the new turbo whenever I get it.

Between those swaps and add-ons hard to quote a horsepower gain accurately but somewhere in the 60-80hp range. You will really notice it SOTP though with doing both of them. If you need a 17* HPOP I think I have a spare I could hook you up with.

That would be awesome Clay. I definitely want it if that is the exact one I need. How can I be sure? You have my number on an email that I just replied to you. Post on here and feel free to call me as well if needed.
A coworker of mine has an OBS and I told him that I was looking into getting the 99.5-03 turbo conversion. He sounded interested in my E99 turbo stuff so hopefully I can find a deal in the classifieds or just buy one from you Clay.

Joey's coming out with a 15* to 17* pump conversion kit here in just a bit... I've been holding out on that because 1) it's cheaper than another pump and 2) I know my pump is in VERY good working condition and there won't be any "iffiness" about a used pump.
Check out a D66 turbo... it's a drop-in replacement for e99's. It's sold by Beans. It's cheaper than a Garrett BB turbo and doesn't require you to have the top-end swapped out. The money you'd spend going to a late turbo isn't really worth it either... as far as I can tell, the money spent to go to a later top-end isn't worth it unless you're gonna put an H2E Turbo on top. I'm gonna go with a D66 when funds allow and I'm saving for a DP-Tuner and gauges. That, or I might just use my laptop with AE for now.
I'd look into a HPx and a Regulated Fuel Return... I've done both and even in stock for with Superchips, it made a BIG difference in low-end torque.

Right on - thanks for the advice Jon. So you are saying that we (with the E99's) have a 15* HPOP?
Ya I was wondering if it would be really worth it to switch all that stuff out for the later model. Would getting that D66 turbo give about the same HP increase as getting the 99.5-03' one? How much are the D66's? It would be nice to just plug and play instead of getting the all new components. Would my buddy with the OBS be able to just plug and play my turbo on his if I did the D66?
I am saving for Tuner + gauges as well but want to make sure I cover the necessary bases beforehand.
I will look into that regulated fuel return as well. I would like to have some more low end torque. Not that I dont have much, but just because these turbo deisels are known for their high end power.
