1993 F150 needs engine...what fits?

Hi Folks. My 1993 F150 5.0/E4OD/4WD needs an engine. I have available to me a 1995 5.0 also from a truck with E4OD and 4WD. What worries me is that the long block part number for 1994-1995 engines is different from the 1992-1993 engines so I wonder what is different and if it will disqualify it for my truck. (I have these long block numbers as well as VINs for both trucks if anybody needs them to answer this) I also wonder what years and other trucks (F250, F350, Bronco, etc.) I can consider for the replacement engine and must they also be E4OD and 4WD?

Thanks for reading.

You can use just about any 5.0L engine as a replacement. It will be much easier to use a late 80's to 90's truck/van/Bronco EFI version. It does not matter what transmission or drive train it comes from. There may be minor variations in the exhaust manifolds, but you can swap the pieces from the existing engine.

I am not sure what the long block part number change is between 93/94, possibly one piece rear main seal?

You should be fine. If the engine you pull for a replacement looks like the one you have now, your good. Make sure to get one from an automatic or change the flywheel if from a manual. Same engine behind both 2WD & 4WD.

The only significant difference between a '93 and '95 5.0 truck motor is the cam, they're both rollers but the '94+ motors got a bigger bumpstick with the 351/HO firing order. That doesn't matter as far as swapping it into your truck however, it doesn't impact the EFI system or wiring harness at all, the only thing you will have to change is the spark plug routing. Otherwise these motors are essentially identical, any block casting changes were minor. To complete this swap install the complete '95 5.0 as it is except use the flexplate and distributor from your truck, also do not use any wiring that comes with the motor, disconnect everything at the sensors/actuators on both.
