Looking at a 2008 F350 6.4

May have the V10 sold so I'm looking at 08-09 F350 diesels. Found one nearby with 28K miles. Oasis shows zero warranty work other than axle recall and venturi install right before the truck was delivered in Jan 08. Truck was built 12-07. Loaded lariat crew short box...everything but Navi. I think I can buy it for $33K. I know it had towing mirrors and a hitch from the factory, but they were not on the truck when this dealer got it. He added a hitch, but it has the little mirrors. The Powerscope mirror switch is there, just not the mirrors! Any idea why someone would remove the towing mirrors and the hitch? Bed is perfect, looks as if this truck was used as a commuter car.

So...am I going to be sorry buying a 6.4 after coming out of my V10 with the 5 Star Tuner? I get 14 empty and 8.5 towing my 10,000-11,000 pound fifth wheel now.

Anything to look for on a job 2 (I think this is job 2 ) truck?

thanks much!

Assume this is a SRW?

man, no towing mirrors.. what a bummer.. they are amazing!..

towing mileage will be about the same.. unloaded will be about the same..
power will be better I think.. a little more expensive in terms of maint,
and u can get an extended warranty until you hit 36k miles.
see partsguyed.com to get a discounted quote.

job 2 has the backup camera & mirror and tailgate step?

Yes, SRW. I intend to buy the mirrors. I put them (08 mirrors) on my 05 and they are wonderful! The power fold and stuff doesn't do anything for me, but the mirrors are awesome!

Does not have camera or tailgate step. Optional or included on Job 2? I thought anything built in the second half of 07 was job 2?

Too bad on the mileage. I would have hoped for a lot better than the V10. I'd really hope for a lot more power although the V10 pulls our fiver anywhere without issue. Seldom have to run more than 2500 RPMs.

I personally would not buy the truck without the tow mirrors and then trailer brake controller.

For me that is a deal breaker.

If you have photo's of everything we would like to see.

Things to look at/watch out for:

Black tail pipes...should be clean

Degas bottle, color of coolant, level and direction of the venturi-T. Check the nitrate level before buying the truck.

Proof of fuel filters change.

yeh mileage continues to be a problem overall..

I have an 08 DRW 6.4

I get 8.9 towing 7000lb flat front car hauler
12.5 around town (mostly highway very little stop & go)
14.5 on the hiway unloaded, tonneau cover. (at 70mph, can't slow down).

here is a recent practical look at mileage towing

Truck has the integrated brake controller. It *had* the hitch and mirrors from the factory. Someone removed them. Speculation is that whomever owned it did not want it towing anything. Seller had a Ford hitch installed recently so all that is missing is the towing mirrors.

What photos are you looking for? Just all the truck photos?

***EDIT***

Just talked to the seller and he has put the correct mirrors back on the truck. They're manual fold/tele, but at least they're the towing mirrors.

How do I check the nitrates in the coolant? Test strips?

maintenance on the diesels is the critical thing

5,000 miles on oil change.. 15qts of oil makes it more expensive
10,000 miles on fuel filters.. do this yourself.. I bought filter sets for $25 from ebay.. have a stock for 50,000 miles.

and check fluids, drain fuel/water separator monthly at least

yes test stips, you need to have 800 ppm min. If less then you need to add nitrates. If below 300 then a flush is mandatory.

For pics, sometimes we can spot something that just does not look right.

let me add that you also want to look underneath at the exhaust components to see if any tampering. That could be an indication of a tuner.

Get an oasis from the dealer so you can ensure warranty is intact.

I have access to the OASIS system. It's weird. Doesn't show the selling dealer or starting mileage like most reports do. Only has these two warranty items showing as ever performed on the truck:

Link to the truck

International Autosport - 2008 Ford Super Duty F-350 SRW Lariat - Stock# D02832a

I found the selling dealer...Brighton Ford in Lansing Michigan. Truck shows as sold in October 08 with a warranty start date of Jan 08? Huh??

not sure what the optional equipement is either.

What I can tell you is the exhaust has been tampered with. Something is not right. Go to the pic of the passenger side rear wheel. Don't see the exhaust unless I missed it, and with all the pics why would they not show it.

Nothing in the engine bay either.

gut feeling is I'd pass
