Question shimming fuel pressure regulator

can anyone give me any info on shimming my fuel pressure regulator . i know this must involve putting a shim under a spring, but i need to know which spring, how much shim to start with, and where to measure the fuel pressure to make sure i got it right. this is for a 1996 f-350 4x4 crewcab longbed with the psd and auto tranny.btw,i did find one link to some info through the search, but when i clicked on it i got an error page. thanks very much for any help.

I WAS GOING OVER A POST ABOUT SHIMMING THE PRESSURE REGULATOR AND YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT PULLING #9 FUSE TO THE PCM IS THAT LIKE DISCONECTING THE BATTERY.
AND WHERE IS IT LOCATED

AS YOU CAN TELL WITH ALL THE QUESTIONS I AM NEW TO DIESELS BUT HAVE BEEN MODING TRUCK FOR AWILE. AND AM TRYING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THEM
I HAVE A TYMAR ON THE WAY (WHEN DALE GETS MORE CLAMPS IN) I ALSO ORDERED A DIABLO DELTA CHIP TODAY FROM THIS WEBSITE. I PICKED UP MY GAUGES TODAY AND HAVE AN APOINTMENT NEXT WEEK FOR A FULL EXHAUST.

NOW I JUST HAVE TO GET MY TRANS DEBUGED OR REBUILT, TAKING IT TO BE COMPUTER SCANNED TOMORROW.

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO

Ice Braker, the #9 fuse is in the under the hood fuse box. When you lift the cover (just behind the air filter box) it is on the left row. I dont recal just where, but the inside of the fuse box cover will tell you wich one is #9. That is the fuse to the PCM, so fulling it cuts power to the PCM and makes it relearn everything, but it wont mess with your radio stations and clock. I usualy do it every so often just to make sure things are in order.

icebreaker88- with the goodies you are adding/ or have already added, it sounds like your making a duplicate of my truck. When you're done, you're gonna love it. It sounds like Bryan's got you covered on the fuse question. Let us know if there are more questions.

theres an easier way to raise the fuel pressure in the T444E or Powerstroke Engine. just pull the regulator spring out and stretch it(carefully) until you get the desired pressure.

Try www.techtranstool.com they used to sell a replacement spring for the powerstroke that raised the fuel pressure.

There's a kit available through Ford called the California fuel pressure regulator kit, that basically does the same thing, but costs about $25. This is much cheaper, and simple enough that even those that aren't very mechanical can get the warm, fuzzy feeling of improving their truck themselves.
