I have a 2006 Ford F250 4x4 with a 6.0. Well about 2 months ago my EGR Cooler went out and I had to replace that, oil cooler and redo the heads. The truck has been running fine actually better than it did when I first bought the truck. Well today I was driving home and when I turned onto the road and pushed the accelerator I heard a slight pop and lost all power. It just turned off completely and my battery light popped on. When I got it stopped I attempted to crank it and all it would do is just turn over. It won't attempt to fire up at all. Has anyone had this happen or have you heard what it could be? Please let me know what your opinions are.
I am charging the batteries right now cause they were a little weak and had corrossion around the terminals. Gonna test that first. But what I am concerned with is the pop I heard. What is the STC fitting and the HPOP? This has been my first diesel and not to familiar with them. Please let me know.
HPOP = High Pressure Oil Pump. The HPOP pressurizes oil and delivers that oil through a series of tubes to the injectors. The oil is used to fire the injectors. The STC is a fitting used on some years which is prone to failure. When it fails, high pressure oil bleeds out of the fitting rather than making it to the injectors. This pressure loss causes a no-start condition (as well as stalling the truck when it happens).
If your STC fitting has failed, the part is relatively inexpensive but the labor involved to replace it can be.
I belive these guys are onto something this sounds exzactly the same as my buddies truck but we were going over train tracks and it was the sct on the hpop according to the dealership it was under warrenty.
The battery light comes on due to your truck is not running and the key is in the run position
Well replaced batteries and it was it. If the oil on the STC fitting leaks where does it leak to and where do I find this? A mechanic told me that it could be the Injector Pressure Sensor but wasn't to sure. I had a buddy run a diagnostic on it and everything came out clean.
Ok fuel is pumping as I removed the top filter and turned key and fuel started pouring out. Oil pressure indicator on dash got to normal when I crank it also.
The HPOP/STC fitting is under a cover that is under the turbo. The leak is internal into the motor and not something you can see. I has to be tested for either electrically or with air and sometimes both.
Yea sorry it wasn't the batteries. So I guess it is narrowed down to the ICP sensor or the STC and HPOP. Tough guess to say which I should change next..
being the oil cooler and egr cooler was just replaced....
remove and inspect the ipr valve for a hole in the screen. if the screen is damaged replace the valve.
The EGR and Oil cooler work was done almost 2 months ago and I put on over 3000 miles since then and truck was running fine till all of a sudden it died. If it would be the ICP, IPR, STC, or the HPOP how come no codes pop up at all. I would think at least one code would jump up at least.
andy sorry but it just doesnt always work with just using codes to diag an issue. many times we get trucks in with no codes and lots of problems. What it boils down to is to get a code the truck has to know its broken, some times they know and some times they dont.
you can take the advise that was give or not. all the above are possible solutions.
start out with the simple stuff like monitering
icp
icpv
ipr
sync
ficmsync
all 3 ficm power pids
vref
vbat
rpm
ebp
map
baro
I hate to jump on this thread but I've got the same problem. truck ran fine coming home, sat in the driveway maybe 2 hrs, then got ready to go and the low oil pressure light comes on. I killed it, now no oil pressure and no start.
