broncoboy-
I am also working on dropping in a 7.3L into a 78 bronco, unfortunately I ran into some issues while restoring the truck and have ended up doing a complete frame off and not as far as I would like to be. Here are a few things to think about;
are you going to use the original trans?
finding the correct motor mounts might be impossible, they might have to be custom fabricated.
doing a body lift will help with clearance issues.
your going to have to increase the "size" weight capacity of your front springs.
should beef up your tie rods, ball joints, and steering. the 78 f250 parts will fit
also changing over the rear brakes to disk will greatly help with your stopping power.
hope this helps......

There are several that have completed the swap. I've seen a few threads over in the Diesel section. Go read everything at 4BTswaps.com and decide from there. A few Google searches wouldnt hurt. It'll be hard to decide what information you actually need to pay attention to and which you can discard.
For example, I've seen people say that a C-6 wouldnt last behind a Cummins and mine has been going for over 6 months of daily thrashing, give or take; and above, some guy mentioned swapping springs...to higher weight rating. Buy my lift actually has a lower weight rating, squishier spring and the vehicle sits pretty much exactly where it sat before the swap.
I didnt think the swap was very hard, but I spent the vast majority of it intoxicated...who knows what I really did???

cruise control for a diesel in a 1979 bronco
just wonder if anyone has cruise control on a diesel in a bronco, maybe used the engines previous setup, wire and steering wheel with controls out of a dodge or f-250sd?

If you're asking me, I have no clue. I dont have cruise on any of my fun vehicles, and I dont know anything about how it works.
I know I've seen "Universal," cruise control for sale in some of the JC Whitney catalogs, so maybe it's something you could do. If you decide to, even if you fail, I'd like to see a very thorough write up...I bet a ton of others would love it as well. For some people, little details like that really make it enjoyable.
The forum 4btswaps.com may have the info you need. There are some guys there that know what they are doing...and...some that dont quite know as much but sure are loud about it.

powerstroke swap in my 1979 f-250 bronco firewall and clearances
Any body know if there is enough room to install the 7.3 litre in the 78 or 79 without cutting steel? Much trouble doing the install? I am thinking of buying a 1999 f-250 with 160,000 miles on it and taking the tranny and engine out and reinstall it in my 1979 bronco, it is 2wd and i have a np205 trans case, I wonder if the transfer case will be ok or should i get one that goes with the 7.3?
