Fuel gauge problem
Recently returned from a deer hunting trip through some rough terain in the mountians of PA. Stoped for fuel and noticed the gauge was still on empty after filling up. The gauge will move between empty and 1/8 tank when braking and accerlating.

Fuel gauge problem
You probably have a bad sending unit in your fuel tank. I am not sure of the procedure to change your sending unit, in the older model broncos you have to drop the gas tank and the sending unit fits in on the top, not a very hard fix, just time consuming.

Fuel gauge problem
yo!
here is a test from the archives..i searched here for "gauge"//
"i own a 95 bronco Iam also a mechanic at a ford dealer. This is a common problem with most fords which is most allways the sending unit to check the gas guage. There is a yellow wire with a whtie tracer coming off the fuel pump to the guage The easiest way to ck the guage and wiring is to disconnect the y/w wire and grond the wire on the dash side of the wire. If you can slide your hand up on top of the tank and disconnect the pump and ground out the y/w wire turn the key on and watch the gauge if the guage goes up the sender in the tank is bad, if youre going to replace the sender you may as well put a pump in it. As for the cruise if the fuses are good it could be the switches , clockspring or servo it would be hard to explain all the tests you go throught. I would say 80% of the time it would be the servo. good luck" end of quote

Might I recommend something? If you are going to replace the sending unit. My advice, get one direct from ford. That way you'll know it's the correct part. I bought one from a parts house ($125) and found out that it read backwards. Turned out, after I dropped the tank the second time, it was for an escort!
Then I just dropped the old sender back in, only one poblem, it wouldn't work at all. So, I had to take the sender out again. The third time I pulled the sender, I took the bed off the truck (88 F-150), but I bought the corredt sending unit from Ford, and haven't had a problem since.
My sending unit cost me $175 but at least it's the correct one. And it already had the low pressure pump attached to it.

I am going through the very same Problems with my 1993 F 250 4X4 . It is really Beginning to drive me out of my mind . when the ignition is on it reads Empty when its off its reads Half a Tank . I just Don't Know if i should replace the Sending Unit or get the Gauge Re-Calibrated as My Mechanic told me to do . He said it is the Gauge . But I Don't think its a problem with the Fuel Gauge .

As this very old thread mentioned, it is rarely the gauge that fails and most frequently the sending unit that does. I would suggest posting this in the "1987 - 1996 F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks" Forum. This being the full size Bronco forum, I hesitate to give you wiring information since you could have a different engine and/or fuel tank setup than the Bronco. The F-series and Bronco were very similar in most respects but I'd hate to give you inaccurate information.
