Snap-on MT 480 Diesel Timing Meter schematic

I just bought a snap-on mt480 diesel timing meter with luminosity probe, and it doesn't work. I looked inside of it, and I found that C2 is broken off and missing. I need a schematic or at least I need to know the value and type of capacitor that is missing.

That might be a question you need to ask the local Snap On salesman.

Maybe someone is daring enough to take there working unit apart to tell you your missing cap.

Even if someone takes a working unit apart, chances are you will not be able to read the value on the capacitor.

Asking the local Snap On salesman about a repair price might not be as bad as you might think.

Then again his price might be outrageous.

But until you ask, you will never know.

Heh, there's a reason we call him the strap-on man! But as Dave said, sometimes they can surprise you.

I emailed and called snap-on for help with this. They don't know anyone who can work on it, and they only have a user manual for it. The capacitor is big and would be easy to read. There is a square on the circuit board that says C2. The capacitor is soldered to the board inside the square. It sure would be nice to be able to time my own engine!!

Take it to a CB shop, Or your local radio shack. 1 of the 2 May be able to help you out.

Especially the CB Shop They deal with electronic circuitry all the time and Likely would be able to identify the missing part for you.

With no value for the required capacitor, a CB shop or Radio Shack would be a wasted trip.

Capacitors come in so many different values and ratings, kinda like asking for a light bulb.

Even if you say automotive light bulb, there are still thousands of possible options.

So wait, why and who from did you buy a broken meter?

If you bought it with the current problem, then the PO already went through what you're going through, then gave up and sold it.
Best of luck to you, but there's no way to know what capacitor goes in there without the old one, or a diagram.

The only other thing that I can recommend is to try and track down the company that Manufactured the tool for Snap-on.

If you can do this, you can give them the location of the missing circuit and they will be able to give you the details from there.

the question is..... Will they?

Nope ... No one is going to provide that info!

If they did you wouldn't buy a new one ... And thats what they want!

If it's missing how do you know something was there in the first place ???

-Enjoy

4shared - mt 480 circuit board - shared folder - free file sharing and storage
This is a link to photos of the MT 480 circuit board. If anyone out there has one please look for me to see what the value of the missing capacitor is.

Why do you want a meter? so you can time your engine acording to the current crack presure of one injector that may be diffrent from the rest and set it to an outdated spec for fule you can't get based of a mark on your crank that may no longer be lined up with #1 TDC. Just time it by ear. If you are set on using the meter you could try asking on oil burners thouse weirdows love meters and are a pretty good bunch of guys some one may be willing to look in theres and see whats suposed to be there. Most of the guys on here don't use meters.

Just so you know you made me laugh. I get what your trying to say......
You can time your diesel if the balancer hasn't slipped showing an innaccurate timing mark, you know the cetane rating and plan on running the same quality of fuel, injectors aren't wore and all pop off pressures are the same.
Alot of folks on here do verify atleast most of these things so yeah, why not use a meter, Debbie Downer.
