we got used 5.4 Lariat, 4wd... and there are some problems.

first of all - low power and low MPG, about 26 l/100 km. I read DTC codes and go fault mamory empty. No codes and no power! What to start with?
this is not all, slight nocking sound in cyl. head area. valve lifters?

tranny and t-case operate fine, but front hubs (vac. controlled) are not engaged! so no FWD! and no sound of Vac. leak!

Tips and tricks...

In the first part of these threads there is a sticky called "tips and tricks" in there you will find a great IWE write up with diagnosis and known issues... presume your IWE Solenoid has gone bad, but diagnosis is needed.

Ticking on these motors, presume you have a 5.4 is pretty much the normal from the cam phazers (cam timing is adjusted as needed during engine operation) but because you have low power also these could have gone bad for you, once agian further diagnosis is needed. Hope this gives you a starting point...

yeah, i gonna check IWE solenoid tommorow, it is dark here now. I did T-case check and I'm sure everething is ok. so seems to me IWE solenoid stuck.... it is easy to check.

so as I've understood 5.4 is variable valve timing engine, is'nt'it? Yeah, this is more complicated engine I used to work on before....

I'm not sure but may be I have cat converters blocked.. well, a lot of work on this truck.

Hey Pablo,

Welcome to the F150 world. Not the same group as in the Aero, but still good guys. We will throw our opinions at you and you will need to do the Ukraine conversions and adaptations that you are famous for on the Aero.

Now about your F150, has it had the plugs replaced or are they still original? There plenty of threads on that headache (plugs break in half when removing). You will need to read and get the extraction tool or fabricate one. There is a thread on that also (time to search).

There is also a great thread on ‘Everything you ever wanted to know about your IWE system’ (a must read).

The ticking you hear in the valve area is more than likely the Cam Phaser issue. Some great threads on that also. Even one with a series of pictures on doing it yourself (you will want to read that one).

yeah, all the plugs are new, someone tried to flush injectors and no notisable difference. about hidden plugs I new before and I was carefull. some dealers offer enforsed spark plugs that will not crack next time. I read a lot about IWE and Cam phaser.

Ouh, I know that previous owner used to ride with vac. line broken and a lot of dust is inside, so IWE valve is faulty. will be replaced soon.

Cam faser works wrong in right head. so seems to me I gonna remove head cover to look inside.
