change 2001 from DRW to SRW

I have a 2001 f-350 DRW Cab and chassis. I want to change to SRW. Are the rear ends the same width? Do all I have to do is change the wheels to SRW's. Any other problems I might have?

Thanks for any information.

I am going to try to be in FL for labor day (Orlando) if my truck has the motor changed by then. Do you know what gear is in it?

Its 3.73 LS out of a 99, and I'll be about an hour away from Orlando on labor day myself.

Fuel econmy and want to put a bed on it are the main reasons. SRW beds are more than 1/2 the price and in better shape around here. I am having the motor changed out now and can't afford a dually bed. I only haul 2 horses a couple times a month and not that far (less than 100 miles).

I didn't think a truck bed would fit on a chassis cab frame? I've been wrong before, I think. lol

It had a dually bed on it before I purchased it. The guy wrecked the bed and took it off.

have you looked into getting fender flares for a dually and putting them on a standard bed? All Ford does is cut out some sheet metal so the tires wont hit it, and screw on the fenders and call it done. That may be cheaper than swapping the rear.

I have looked at that idea. From what I found out the flares will not cover the wheels all the way.
If you know of some that do, let me know.

Well, I meant the factory dually fenders, not just some aftermarket mud-slingin' protection. You can usually find some on ebay for a decent price. All depends on how much looking you do to determine what is cheaper, and more practical for you to do. I bought a dually for a dumb reason- I think they're friggin sexy lookin' and I tell her that all the time LOL. But now years later that I tow for side money, I feel a heck of a lot better with 4 wheels supporting the kingpin on a 14k trailer that just 2. If I lose a tire, I can safely pull over fairly easy. With a regular rear end, you're lucky not to have a hell of a time getting off the road. All depends what you want to do.

Thanks. that is some good information. With how much I am going to have in this baby, I might want to get a 2 car hauler. I also could use it to haul hay. I am retired so I will have a lot of time on my hands.

You lost me with the "if i lose a tire". Do you have a set of lug nuts for each wheel (two sets on each side of the rear)? My studs are not that long.

I agree with you on the dually fenders.

He means blowing a rear tire, not physically losing one.
