1995 Powerstroke smoked for 1-2 min with the key off
1995 F250 powerstroke 5spd
I was shifting from 3rd to 4th at about 1900 RPMs and all of a sudden it opened up all the way at full throtle and was smoking black from the pipe and under the hood from 1-2 min. It left about 1 quart of oil on the ground. Couldn't get it to stop running. The truck has 116000 miles and is in great condition and was running fine and had no leaks. Was getting 18 MPG highway and 13.5 city. Any replies would be great. Someone said that diesel builds up in the crankcase and when it gets so much pressure it blows a release valve somewhere on the engine. Is that what happened or was it something else?

Check your oil level. If it is high your engine was running on crank case oil. On the other hand, if it ran that way for 2 minutes, it may have used up the excess oil in the crank case. Has the engine been started since this episode? Will it run? When it cranks does it sound like one cylinder is low on compression? Have you checked under the truck -- is there a hole in the block or oil pan? If not, drian the oil and examine the stuff sticking to the magnet in the oil drain plug. If it has a bunch of metal shavings stuck to it you probably scored a cylinder bore. That is about the best I can do until I get more information.

ron, i wish i knew everything...HA!!!!!
if the motor runs away how do you stop it? you would have to cut off the air supply in order to stop the engine from running, when she goes, it revvs till it explodes, there is no stopping at the rev limiter.
fuel in the oil is very bad, its most likely injector or seals. if you have tons of fuel in the oil i would assume you have a miss as well? low power?
