got back last night from my trip and this is a breakdown of miles and actual fuel cost..... i left houston with just over a 3/4 a tank....

wednesday left houston drove to illinois with a 5000lb load 756miles

thursday drove to mississippi empty 224 miles.....picked up 1500lbs 7 foot tall 13 foot long load(serious wind drag) and drove to texas 426miles

friday delivered in texas and then drove to arkansas empty 173miles picked up 1850lb load and drove back to houston 352 miles

im home now with still 1/4 tank left

total 1931 miles and actual diesel cost was $415.00 or 21 cents a mile

what i know before is when i drove to port fourchon louisiania and back to houston it would cost $260 round trip and that 768 miles..... or 34 cents a mile.....

so on this three day trip i saved $251 or 2 and half tanks of fuel.....and also its worth mentioning that diesel is cheaper in houston and louisana than it is in driving north. this is extra money in my pocket

i also have some fuel left..... and my truck doesnt fire up unless im making money.... anyway i hope this helps people

cliff notes
756 houston to metropilis ill 5000 lbs
224 ill to miss empty
426 miss to tx 1500lbs
173 tx to arkempty
352 ark to tx 1850 lbs

saved 251 dollars

You're killing me. Every post of yours makes we want to pull the pin.

My problem is I can't justify throwing my stupid 200k extended warranty away.

Anyway, thanks for the excellent posts - please keep them coming.

figuring if you paid $3/gal for diesel you got nearly 14mpg this time around and if you figure you saved $251 then you were getting just over 8.5mpg with the DPF system still on the truck. these numbers are not far off from other numbers you reported. this is nearly a 63% increase in fuel economy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! holy great mother of god, at some point some insane lunatic at the EPA needs to understand is it worth wasting that much diesel for a little less smoke, my question is what in the world is the truck doing with that much wasted fuel is the exhuast really any cleaner?? its a wonder diesel is not dripping from the tail pipe.

think about how much money you would be throwing away if diesel was up near $5/gal again. if you figure your fuel costs to 100k miles at current prices and with your mileage going from 8.5 to 13.5 mpg you will be saving nearly 13 grand in fuel over that time. you guys that are worrying about your engine warranty get a clue your savings could pay for your own brand new motor **** on the warranty!!!! with savings of this magnitude one has to wonder if one day a cottage industry will develop of buying a new truck and putting in an old mechanical pumped cummins, because certainly over the long haul the savings will pay for the costs, plus those motors will get even better mileage than a non DPF 6.4 likely another 20% better. don't worry I am a cummins fan but have a new 6.7 ford on order right now.

That is great! That is just money in your pocket... can't beat that! The more you drive the more money in your pocket. Great record keeping too... def stay on top of that for as long as you can. I would love to see yearly data of fuel used, miles traveled and money saved!
