Re checked the RPM @ 55 this morning and acording to the HS it is 1790rpm.

Check the Computer this morning, it stated 601 miles to walking (empty) based on a 38 gal tank that makes about 15.8 mpg.... I can belive that figure a lot easier than 22mpg. These are no load empty conditions.

Drive safe

yeah i have thought this before.....on my miles to empty on the 40 gallon tank it says 630 but i never get more than 450ish when it gets to 100m to empty it the gauge drops faster than the first 530m.....this has been my experience

Tex,

Just finished my first tank after adding the H&S and 5 inch sewer pipe. Before mileage was 14.5-14.8mpgs Avg ( hand calculated), first tank result with the Mild tune set 16.8mpgs and yes it was hand calculated. The mileage meter is showing 24.9..... Speed is confined b the cruise control to 57mph with some intown (25%)
I have been monitoring the EGTs during this tank and they mostly fall in the 500* range and % throttle has been 12% or lower most of the time.

This week I set the tuner to Hot and the defuel ( Boost) at 30PSI ( just to keep temptation at bay and the heads on the truck)and we'll see what happens with this tank.

Cheers
Rob.

Hey Tex great info. I was thinking about trading in my 04 F350 SRW on a newer 6.4 but the stories about poor milage have scared me off. I was thinking abut going hot shoting, are there companies out there who will hire on a truck with SRW? or must it be a duelly. that and my fears of the 6.0 not being able to stand up to hot shoting (although mine is stock and have had no motor problems thus far) is the reason Im thinking about trading.

What i can quite get my head wrapped around is why the gear is so low on these things. Just made a run to Norfolk and back with a two axle trailer to pick up a car for a friend, did not know the trailer was back there loaded or not.

Even withthe trans in Lock up mode I could accelerate very easy without downshifting... from around as low as 1500rpm. Isn't that the whole idea of a diesel low end torque?

Sent H&S a request for a new trans tune.... Haven't heard back yet I assume they are working on it. Also going to chat with Sun Coast about a lower stall TC to see if this will help in the mpg department.

More to follow.

Your truck is made for very heavy hauling, hence the low gear ratios. You may want to consider changing your axle gear ratios if you don't need all that grunt that you have now.

Hey dude sorry for the late response I have been crazy busy having gone to north dakota, ohio, miss, and now montana with a second stop in utah....to answer your ?... Yes some co. Do hire srw. Those do a lot of local runs... The money makers are the drw with a flat bed/stake bed. For example my ohio run paid 2675. But my montana only is going to pay 2200. So you have to choose what's best for you. Also there is many a secret to this biz. But one of the biggest is not having a truck payment. Work goes up and down. I have seen to many driver go belly up because of lean months. There are some months you will make 10k after fuel then some you only make 3k...hope this helps. I wrote this on my phone so I hope it makes sense

Hey Tex, sorry to steal the post for a sec. Ive been shopping around for DWR I am in the black on my truck payments now so I can trade up and keep the payments I have now. My payments are rather low compared to some. Way Less than half of what my freightliner payments were. Trust me if you knew what I was living off of now 3K Month would be livin in tall cotten.
I was looking at a flat bed with flip-down goose neck ball. Whats gotta be the killer is the motel issue. Is your truck set up for a sleeper? I heard some states wont let you sleep in it stock. I was wondering if i could contact you via e-mail so I can pick your brain somemore on the subject?

Tex 450,

Finaly got some solid Fuel numbers in, ~4500# in the bed two trips to Norfolk from the DC area (425miles round trip) I calculated 17.54 first trip and 17.56 the second trip. Not bad for running the cruise control and 55 mph.

Cheers
