Onboard air install

Forgive me if this is considered the wrong forum.

Ive been doing some research on installing a york compressor on my 351w w/o a/c. I have a line on what appears to be a york 206 that is new and fairly cheap. ive been looking at some install kits over at bronco air and it all shows the bracketry for installing with A/C. Has anyone done an install with a york compressor without a/c? Does it matter if the compressor is left or right hand suction? Im assuming this is going to have to be a custom bracket.... I will probably order the custom power steering pulley from them. Also kind of confused how they keep tension on the vbelt with their set up. cant really find any good pictures online for something like this. Any ideas? pics would be great if anyone has done this before.

Get a York ac unit and bracket from a 80-87 351w truck they'll bolt right on get the other pulleys off the truck too

They need a hole plugged to keep oil in them it requires taking them apart and it will still let oil out

The years are off a bit I'm sure but somewhere in that range

The unit will say motorcraft not york

wouldnt that be a v belt setup? i would have to find a clutch to fit off of a serpentine set up for that to work correctly. at least i would thiink anyways.

I assumed you had v belts but you may be able to get a belt that bolts into the front of the serpentine pulleys

I wasn't aware the York units ever came with serpentine belts is it the same kind as the early 80s versions if not it may not be useable

This isn't answering your question, but here is a wealth of information about the york compressor and it even gives a little schematic too.

I have a York 210 (same thing just a few more cubic inches than a 206 or 209) on my 351. I kept my A/C too but you should be able to figure out the mounting regardless. Look at my post here for pics: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post15166835

My truck uses a stock serpentine belt and I'm running the dual-groove pulley from BroncoAir but I absolutely wasn't fixin' to pay what he was asking for a simple mounting bracket, so mine is fabricated from steel plate instead of aluminum like the BroncoAir piece. I wouldn't have bought the pulley from there either if I was able to find a steel serpentine pulley that fit my steering pump. I'd have just welded a v-belt pulley to the face of it instead, and it wouldn't be that goofy orange color either but no worries because I painted mine flat black so it blends in.

The BroncoAir bracket has no provision for tensioning the belt so you have to muscle it with a prybar while tightening the mounting bolts. Mine has a tensioner bolt on the bottom.

Compressor in/out fittings are just 3/8" street elbows TIG welded to steel flanges. Bolted right on. This is for the flange-type fittings. There are I think two options for fittings so you might have to come up with another way to connect up. I plumbed the intake port to the top (filtered) side of my factory air filter box. If you mount the compressor like I did then you don't need to worry about left or right hand suction. If you're going with some other method where the compressor will be laying on it's side then the suction port has to be the one on top, which might affect where you'll be able to mount it.

I did NOT modify my compressor in any way. Lots of guys say you have to do this or that to keep it from pumping oil mist, but I ain't ever had a problem with excessive oil. May be because it's mounted vertically or may be because it was a rebuilt unit I bought on eBay. I have a oil/water separator in the back near the receiver (tank) inlet but it hardly ever has much oil in it. Running straight 30W non-detergent non-synthetic in mine and it's been fine in the Florida heat. I fill it to 1" from the bottom of the crankcase as measured by my custom dipstick, also known as a zip tie.

So pretty much the only "special" part I bought was the dual belt pulley. Every other part of the entire system is off the shelf stuff, no need to spend a lot of money on this.

Let me know if you need more pics or help with any of it.

Thank you for that sir. I wantes to get the 210, but 75 bucks for a new 206 with clutch is something i dont think i can pass on. Ill have to pick it up and try and figure something out. May just make a box-like structure that will mimic an ac compressor sitting under it and make a bracket like you have. Idk. We will see what happens when i get it home.

I wish I was as lucky as you mine even after modifying it still blows a ridiculous amount of oil but it seemed to get better after the modification

I do need to get an oil separator but I did mine when I was 16 and broke and never got around to updating it
