Thanks a ton for the post Ed. I was online getting ready to order a motor when I ran across this. I already had 4 nuts so had to go get 2 more. Thanks for the pics too, a description would have never gotten through to me. Mine went out yesterday and it's fixed today. All I have left is to JB Weld a crack in Ford's sorry plastic door panel. Thanks again... best post I've ever dealt with.....Here's to ya....

I took apart the window motor on the van and found the brushes to be worn out.

Anyone know where to get a set?

How short do they have to be to be shot and needing replaced? Mine were only 1/4" maybe 5/16" long. Motors seem to work OK when they do work. I replaced all the plastic pucks with ball bearings.

Should I have the motor brushes replaced? Is that all the guy who rebuilds motors and starters does? There is a local guy that I would take them to if it is a job best done by a pro. If it's only brushes I think I can do that.

I apparently have a bad switch as once in a while a window will not work. Usually if they go down they come back up except for Wednesday Had to pull panel and motor off regulator to raise window back up.

When I test my switch and find it bad what brand do I want to get? Is the Dorman brand working out OK or should I hunt down a factory switch. My switches look horrible anyway all cracked and weathered.

I only want to tear these door panels off one more time. I have other projects to do and finish.

Found that the PO(s) had replaced the dowels with nuts. It subsequently broke the plastic wheel that the dowels sit in. Made MY repair much more complicated. Will be replacing with nylon dowels in hopes that the wheel is not broken again.

When you buy new window motors, don't use the cheap punch down splices that comes with them. Fixed!

I just used this method to repair my FS Bronco's driver window motor in a couple of hours on Saturday. Thank you Guys, thanks I used a wratcheting adjustable 8mm spanner on the one bolt, and the silly non-standard bolt in the motor with odd head I drilled the head, it then came out easiy. Then tapped a standard thread on there (5mm x something) and it was easy from there on out. One thing - I forgot about the circlip and slightly deformed the head of the shaft so I had to file it to get the gear mechanism off, bit otherwise plain sailing. I noticed the yellow pieces were in the worm drive too so lots of cleaning that out. Also re-sealed the cover.

EASY PEASY, and that nut fix ... without it, I'd be lost.

Question Qustion about Transferring Window Regulators

Hello i was wondering if someone could shine some light on this topic for me, I own 1990 F-150 XLT , and wanted to transfer window regulators and panels to my 1991 F-250, Is this possible? Just wondered if Ford already installed the electrical pigtails in the door from the factory. Didn't wanna change the doors since i just had them painted on mt F-250, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes i took a look , And there is no power for any accessories, Looks like i could change it over with no problem ,It looked like the holes are already drilled for the motor assy. But i would have to run power to the motors from one of the accessories power sources. And drill holes for door panel that has power windows and locks, Its a full door panel verses partial that's on there already.

looking for a link

I know this is an old thread BUT
I've an '88 7.3 E350 with the window problem.
Just before Covid (2019) I went to start to replace the window motor. I found a youtube video showing drilling 3 holes to access the motor bolts, taking just the motor out, replacing it. Short and sweet.
So in late 2019 I drilled the holes, bought the motor, went on a short vacation to Mississippi from Virginia. Covid hit while we were down there, didn't return until about August this year.

Can't find the youtube link.

I do much better if I've got a video to stumble through a project.
Anyone know of the link or can help?

Thanks, that's a good one but the one I was thinking of more along the lines of
Except the guy didn't have to cut extra sheet metal. He just cut the 3 holes for access to the bolts that hold the motor on.
Then he wiggled the old motor out, wiggled the new one in and he was done.
