Based on the low gearing...no overdrive...and heavy truck....maybe 8-10 MPG.

How do you drive it? Mostly slow around town and on country roads, or do you go on the interstate a lot? Should be able to pull low teens with that setup, till you pick up speed and revv it to the moon.

The last few tanks in my 1992 F350 4X4 w/5.8L & E4OD, 3.55 gears and 31" tires have averaged 11-12 MPG of combined city/highway driving.

4.10 gears and a 3-speed... that's single digits milage only.

That combo moves you into the sub 460-mpg range, in fact a 460 with those gears will get "slightly" better mpg, with a E4OD you would be getting 12/14mpg, the C-6 is tough, but it costs you at the pump.

I get around 9 with my 88 351/c6/4.10's...

I drive mostly open country roads with little traffic and hardly any stops to speak of. I've only got the front tank...so I tend to see the gas station more than I like

Darn you people make me feel real good about my diesel, with 4.10s and the OD locked out I can run up and down windy country roads all day long and I still get over 12mpg... What I wonder tho, is what difference does it make if he has an OD gear or not, he said he ain't driving on the interstate and for back-country roads OD is for the most part useless if you wanna keep the engine in its powerband, even with them 4.10 gears. Keep in mind he's got them big 32" tires too, not the 29" ones that halftons got, so if you're comparing a halfton to his 1-ton you gotta recalculate his effective gear ratio with respect to the larger tires...

I think the OD would still help on back roads, I run my 5 speed in 5th at 30-35 mph. (93 250 460/4:10) It will idle down the back roads at 1000-1200 rpm easily, not quite in the powerband but fine for cruising. Seems like a diesel should do better than 12 mpg, what combo is it?
