Mechanical Diodes in V10's??

According to the guy doing my trans, my trans has (had) the mechanical diode. It's a 2001, V-10. Thought these didn't have them??

01-13-5***TRANSMISSION - 4R100 - DELAYED OR NO 2ND GEAR - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES P0781, P0755 AND/OR P0756 - VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4R100 TRANSMISSION WITH TRANSMISSION BUILD DATES BETWEEN 7/27/2000 AND 3/23/2001 ONLY

The above TB shows they did.

So what's the story??

Nope, gassers didn't have them. Ford only put them in the diesel engine rigs.

When I worked at Ford we were told that all gasser trucks that were built with the mechanical diode had the trans replaced before leaving the assembly plant. I now believe that a small number of trucks did not get the trans replaced and a few mechanical diodes did end up in gasser trucks. It wasn't supposed to happen.

Thanks for updating, Mark. I was going by your previous posts when I answered this thread.

Lucky for you man. I could deal with $515 as compared to what I'm paying for my trans.

Yep,our '01 Navigator and a good friend's '01 Lightning both had the MD in them. The Navigator had the trans replaced before delivery, and the Lightning was replaced during the warranty term.
