So I have been trying to get this thing put back together and my new fuel system orings came in today.
My question is: Will the HPOP fill itself when I crank the engine over to start it after I get the fuel bowl installed and such. I know that will fill itself upon cranking but not sure of the HPOP. The reason why I ask this is that the only way to fill the HPOP on my truck is that plug on the rear. I had put it on with the new pink oring and that green loctite that was included in the oring kit. I'd hate to pull that off again to put oil in the HPOP. I need to get this truck up and running so I can drive to work tomorrow when my shift starts. Any help is appreciated. Sorry for all the questions but this is the most involved that I have gotten by working on my truck. The most complicated thing I have ever done is change the engine oil, tranny fluid/filter and fuel filter. So I have to ask.
Simply fill the hpop reservoir through the plug on top of it. Crank for 15 seconds at a time. After 6 - 8 cranks if it still hasn't started refill the reservoir. Once you get it started let it idle for 15 min and try to put 100 miles on it to work all of the air out of the lines
Yep, Shawn has you handled. All I can add is don't try to get it to close to the top of the reservoir. You can't overfill it just over flows to the crankcase, so you can end up putting way to much in and creating more work for yourself. Just put a 1/2 quart in the reservoir and call it good.
there is a small plug on top (drivers side) of the HPOP reservoir. take it out and fill up with oil from there...about an inch or so from the top.

So how many times will I need to crank this thing over for 15 seconds to get it fired up?
Typically 2-3 times. Sometimes more, depending on how much air is in the oil rails at the heads. However, since you didn't pull the injectors, there probably won't be too much air in those rails.
I've cranked that thing 4 times, 15 seconds each and it won't fire. I checked and I have no extra parts laying around, I made sure that the filter and the little plastic ball were in before I put the HPOP back together. *confused am I*
check the level in the hpop making sure its about an inch from the top still
if not refill to 1 inch from top and try cranking again
if it is with in an inch keep cranking
AE is Auto Enginuity it is a scan tool that is pc based that we use to troubleshoot the trucks. Are you sure that the little ball did not move from its position when you took the non servicable plug out? with out that in place the pump cannot develop high pressure and thus will not fire the injectors.
