the 5th wheel weight is tied to another object, not just free balanced on the truck completely..

question for Rickatic and other 2011 F350 owners:
What is the GVWR for your truck and do you have 20" wheels? The specs show the 2011 F350 is 10,000lb GVWR. Can you get a higher GVWR on the 2011 F350? There is a 68U extra payload option but I think it requires the 18" wheels.
Are you guys seeing any axle hop or shuddering when you begin pulling your heavy 5th wheels from a dead stop?
I have a 34ft Cedar Creek triple slide 5th wheel. Unloaded weight is 10,683 lbs, pin weight is 1962, Trailer GVWR is 13,962. I've never weighed it but we don't load it down.
My '08 F250 is pushed down pretty good with the pin weight (which we all know is always heavier. I'd say it's about 2200-2300 lbs since the bedroom with clothes and basement storage is at the front) I've had to add Timbren rubber springs to keep the bed somewhat level.
Will the 10,000 GVWR rating on the F350 and the extra spring keep me in good shape? I don't want to have to add any air bags or extra springs. Just looking for some reassurance that the bed will sit level with the 5th wheel on the bed.
I'm on the fence between the 3500 HD SRW and the F350 6.7 SRW CC SB right now.

I haven't had any exposure to the GMs, so no comment on them, but I would buy my F350 again......in a "Heartbeat"

Where was that, or can we say? Shudder seems like slipping tranny plates, but wheel hop? Unless I'm crazy how can you get wheel hop on a loaded trailer, or any trailer, unless it's spinning the tires? I can tell ya that on my 10,500 5th wheel even the 6.7 ain't spinning tires on pavement.

Are you guys talking about a slide in camper certificate?
How do 20" and 18" wheels change the CG if the tire diameters are the same.

The shudder feels like a transmission problem. Only happens when hot and fully loaded. Doesn't do it cold or even with 8,000lbs. load. It is not wheel hop, even though I have spun the tires on cement fully loaded in reverse pushing trailer up mild obstructions. That leaves a very BLACK mark on the road. Shudder usually happens at stop signs and red lights. I have not tried to put my foot in it on takeoff to see if it is different. It doesn't do it every time either. I'm going to wait until after the chips get flashed. Could be just the software. I once had a 95 T-Bird that did a similar shudder on only one hill in town. Changed trans fluid and that took care of it.
