Very true, I also have a locking cap, 44 gallons of diesel is no where near cheap. Keeps the honest people honest. I have a family that owns a custom machine and welding shop, I hav having him weld up a shell out of 1/4 inch steel to fully enclose my fuel tank. Will help stop any attempts but also add off road protection

That's a great idea. At $160-$175 for a full fill up, not bad investment protection for just adding a little extra weight...

Trailer is almost loaded up, so I hooked it up and got my WD setup figured out. Had to move the battery box on the trailer back a few inches to make the WD bracket work, and I also installed my B&W 24K ball. Have the spring bars cranked pretty hard, and once we're fully loaded tomorrow I'll be getting a good tongue weight measurement from the local scale for fine tuning.

Could you take a few pics of the WD setup you have? I have a V-nose as well and cannot find a good WD setup because of the room issues with a v-nose.

I feel your pain, my last trailer was unable to use a typical WD setup due to the front of the V was over the part of the frame where the WD hardware needs to go. On that particular trailer I ended up paying a trailer shop to weld hooks onto the frame, and setting up the hitch required using a floor jack to lift the ends of the spring bars to hang the chains on the hooks. It sucked, but it worked. I'll try and find some photos of the setup for you, give me a bit.

After going through all that with my last trailer I ordered this one with an extended tongue to properly allow for the use of a WD hitch. That extra 18" of tongue was the best $100 I've ever spent! Other than moving the battery box, which took all of five minutes, all I had to do was clamp on the brackets and use as directed. So unfortunately pictures of my current setup probably won't help you.

I've ordered two trailers and had both made with the extended tongue. I didn't need it for a WD but wanted my toolbox on the tongue. Money well spent!

Just rolled over 280,000 miles today. About to change ball joints, brake pads all around, shocks front and rear and front end alignment. As much as I want a diesel this 5.4 Triton is a beast. MPG's suck but so does the price of diesel. I'm gonna take this thing to 500,000 if it will take it....

That's what Chips/Tuners and MOD's are for!
Some of the simplest mods - provide free MPG improvement (ie, ZooDad Mod)

Have you ever figured out how much gas you buy going 280k miles at 10 mpg? The cost of the ex
Pails in comparison.

Yeah this X didn't cost me much...I traded a 1997 Mustang GT and a 2002 Ford Escort for it...

Since ive done about everything to improve MPG on a 5.4.. here it is

Zoodad mod - free and 0 mpg, but free so its ok
5 Star tunes - $379 and maybe a SLIGHT mpg increase, and i run in 87 performance
Gibson headers - $450 and again, maybe a SLIGHT mpg increase
SPD y pipe - $150 and probably only noticable mpg gain
Cat back MBRP dual exhaust - again, maybe a slight gain

i think biggest help for me would be gears... but i dont plan on keeping the truck for long so im not going to invest the money
