What did you do to the X today?
You can get C or D load tires but the E load will handle the weight of the EX better without having a potential plow out and should last longer that the other loads. If you look around you can find the tires at a good price and rated for the weight of the truck. My truck is 9800lbs with bumper lift and tires and just me in the truck. An E load is 3100 per tire a D load is around 2600lbs and a C load is around 2300lbs. 3100 × 4 =12400lbs which will be a safe working load for the weight of the truck, passengers and cargo. A C load is 2600 × 4 = 8400lbs. If the truck is around 9000lbs curb weight then the D load technically wouldn't be enough working load. Would the C load or the E load make more sense. Hope this helps explain why.
Are you sure about that gasser's weight at 9800lbs with driver only? Seems very heavy, my '05 6.8 (4X4 with 4" of lift and 35"s) with my wife and I along with two dogs (190lbs together) weighs 8080lbs on a certified Cat scale. I know you have the big front bumper, so a little extra weight their but mine has a heavier aftermarket hitch and I still had my Hensley stinger in the hitch when weighed, so figure an extra 100lbs between those two items. So between my extra passengers and the stinger there's 400lbs I can subtract to get my driver only weight of 7680lbs, I can't see how your weight is 2100lbs higher.
I weighed mine, 05 4x4, 6.8L Eddie Bauer, full tank, no passengers, two car seats. It was 7260 lbs on a certified scale. I can post the receipt if anyone is interested.

Still not a really definitive answer on why the E rates are better.

I have E's on my 285 wrapped Ex, but D's on my 37" wrapped '99 F250, but both are very similar load ratings.
Go to the tech folder and scroll down to the second post, then click the first link in the suspension section, "Steering wander corrected with 5* of caster."

Pirate beat me to it. Go by load rating.

yes, but can I just loosen my ubolts at home, add the wedge and put it back together w/o alignment? if yes, can i reuse ubolt, i don't think you are supposed too?
or i could just used the ball joint bushing too i believe. IIRC i was at about 3.5* of caster last fall when I had alignment done.
